Housing Styles

America has a relatively short history, compared to other countries and/or nations. For this reason it is possible to trace the history of American housing styles in several categories, however I choose to cover; Georgian/Colonial, Greek Revival, Victorian, Tudor, Craftsman, Prairie, and Ranch.

We spent the day researching the major structural elements that would allow us to recognize the exterior of the house. We then studied the year it reached it’s height of popularity in America and what were some major historical events in America during that era.

The following class period we created posters reflecting our research, students were then able to present to classmates in order to allow everyone exposure to the various styles. Students created a timeline to showcase housing eras in America, and lastly students completed two polls one voting on their favorite housing style and the second voting for the best poster.
